It is pathetic that the Agri Dept is showing less interest in such a noval idea put forward by the Minister, Sri. K. P. Mohanan a real farmer. The Dept is supposed to be for encouraging the growth of agri cultre a CULTRE on which our nation is based.
People who bought the Grow bags have now planted their own veggies in it. For me, and may be for other city dwellers, it is a boon to get some soil in a bag. Most of the 4-5 cent people might have concealed the earth around their homes with interlock tiles and all.
I got 25 bags with vegetables of their choice planted carelessly. Some of them were lost. In effect we paid Rs 20 for a grow bag plus some soil. But the irony is that Agri. Department spent Rs 80 per bag of which Rs 60 was for subsidy which has gone to the contractor, not for the farmer. If you have any doubt I can prove. Because I had already planted a few items and worked out the cost. Any thing can be worked out if the authorities have interest. Where has that Rs 60 subsidy gone?
Grow Bag is good for growing vegetables especially on terrace. Now it is available in different sizes in Garden centres and Nurseries etc. You can buy the manure of your choice and prepare the medium for growing vegetables. Not a big deal and do not get cheated by the Krishi Bhavan.
