Turmeric Pickle Vs Diabetes

What has a pickle got to do with Diabetes ? Yes sure, a lot. The curcumin in Turmeric is known to fight Cancer and now recent research has shown that it fights Diabetes also. Turmeric is a natural antisepetic and is good for digestion. It will cleanse your stomach and get rid of all toxins. It is used in Indian cuisine for centuries.
Turmeric has got a slightly burning bitter taste. Hence use proper accompaniments like Lemon, Garlic etc to cancel that effect.
Turmeric Pickle can be made just like any other Pickle. Wash some fresh Turmeric. Peel the skin and slice it a little more thicker than matchsticks. Semi Boil it. Use Eastern Pickle Masala. Add some slices of Lime and also Ginger. Vinegar is recommended.

Eat More with Less Money

Eat more with Less money is the statement today. More and more people are finding it hard to buy food. Eating out is getting highly expensive if you go to a decent restaurant. Eating from small hotels and fast food joints are risky.
What you can do is buy small portion of food from a decent hotel and multiply it with some tricks.
If you are buying Non veg items like Chicken, Mutton or Beef, you can try this.
Heat some oil on a pan. Add sliced large onions and saute it. Add freshly chopped Ginger, Garlic, Green Chillies and Tomatoes. Fry it for 5 minutes. Add the portion of meat you bought and salt as required. Heat it in medium for 5 minutes more. This way you can increase the quantity of food by not spending too much.
For veg items like Chili Gobi, Gobi Manchurian etc. you may do the same above. You can add some more capsicum and fresh coriander leaves to spice up the dish.

Eat Healthy with Less Money

Eating Healthy in Kerala is nearly impossible. Since Keralites depend on other states for most of the edible things, it is at their mercy to get fruits, vegetables, meat, eggs and grains without adulteration, pesticides and chemicals, preservatives etc. The recent episode of food poisoning from Shawarma and the death of a person has uncovered the dirty and unclean kitchens of Kerala Hotels and Fast food shops. The fruits and vegetables in the shops and upscale supermarkets are loaded with chemicals that will damage your entire digestive system and kill you gradually. The cereals, grains, spices and other condiments are also adulterated with harmful and toxic powders and substitutes. It is sometimes not easy to detect.
The best possible solution is to avoid buying fruits and vegetables from the shops as much as possible. Try to grow your own veggies. There is no option for grains and pulses. Eat it in moderation. Eat local fruits like Mango, Jack fruit and Guava. These are available in our backyard mostly. Be smart and sensible. Try Organically grown fruits and veggies from VFPCK stalls and outlets. Take a ride to the countryside in your locality once in a week and get the vegetables and fruits from there. The small shops in the villages sell local produce mostly. It will be a small outing for the family and the kids will come to know the village life and culture.

Poisonous Fruits and Vegetables in Kerala Shops

Kerala is a Market to dump all types of Goodies for everyone. Be it Fruits, Veggies, Meat, Egg or whatever. Mallus will buy them. There is no choice for them. The suppliers of these items make sure they make max profit out of it. No matter what is in it. Be it Endosulfan, Furudan, or other highly toxic chemicals and pesticides, Steroids and Preservatives, Shoe Polish, Wax and Petroleum Jelly, Mallus will eat the stuff which is ripe and shining and like the advertisers say "Worlds Largest/Biggest or India's Largest Showroom" they will buy the Largest and Biggest fruits and veggies in the shop. They think that is the best available and will pay the premium price tag and make sure it goes into their stomach the earliest.
No one is bothered to buy the smallest tomato, thinnest drumstick or banana thinking that they are not superior produce. I suggest to buy those items since they might have the least amount of poison inside.

Swap Fruits for Healthy Vegetables

My last post on Aloe Vera juice prompted me to go and get some from a local herb store. To my surprise, a huge Aloe Vera plant weighing 4.5 kg costing Rs. 45 came with me to my home..!! I planted that in a big Paint drum in my back yard. Now I can cut one each of its leaves and make my healthy Aloe vera juice daily.
Rs. 10.00 per Kg, Aloe vera is cheaper than any other fruits available in the market. It does not have the poisonous chemicals and insecticides and will surely benefit your health instead of damaging it. The problem is that people just won't swap their favourite Apple, Grapes or Oranges for these stupid, bitter, nonsense veggie. God Bless Latin America.

Aloe Vera Juice and Health Benefits

Aloe Vera is a throny greeny beauty. It is wonder drug for many ailments and its juice is also a miracle Health Drink. Aloe Vera is an active ingredient in many ayurvedic medicines and also Skin ointments, creams and moisturisers. Its cool antiseptic properties can soothe the skin from various discomforts. The juice taken inside can heal internal bleeds, cuts, ulcers etc. It is an anti oxident and good for reducing BP. Fresh, raw, Aloe vera plants are available in Kerala's Ayurvedic Medicine herbal shops and comes very cheap.

The juice is generally not that tasty but if you add a bit of Mint leaves, Lemon juice, and a dash of Ginger, Crushed Ice, this Health Drink will beat 7 up or Limca and regular use will load you with natural goodness and strength by toning down the Intestine and other internal organs.

Peel the skin and remove the thorns... and scoop out the inside jelly like flesh only. Wash it gently. Add water and the above mentioned ingredients and make a cold glass of Aloe Vera Juice.

Wholesome Veggie diet for School kids

It is a Herculean task to get kids have their quota of vegetables. They simply will not eat most of the veggies.
Here is a way to make them eat vegetables.
Slice/grate Carrots, cabbages, cauliflower, capsicum, raddish, potato, garlic etc. Stir fry these veggies in little oil until they are semi cooked.
Prepare noodles and add these items and simmer for 5 minutes. Garnish with chopped tomatoes, celery, coriander leaves and ginger.
The kids will eat it for the sake of their favourite Noodles. You can omit the veggies not readily available.
Try also the same ingredients with a sachet of  Soup from Maggi or Knorr. Your children will get all the goodness of the vegetables without much forcible feeding.

Frogs Leg fry

Monsoon is the best season to spot huge frogs in Kerala. The first rains will usher the Frogs to jump out of their hibernation and leap to joy and freedom. If you drive in the rains through the Kerala village roads through the paddy fields/Kole fields, you can see frogs leaping across the road in your headlights. You can also see people with Torches or Search lights mounted on their heads with a stick and sack walking through the Paddy fields to catch the frogs.
Frog meat is the tastiest I have ever eaten. The soft and tender meat with masala and fried in oil is simply delicious. But it is hard to find the frog meat because it gets a premium in the Bar Hotels and is also exported.

Tasty Pazham Pori or Banana Fry

Pazham Pori is a usual Kerala Snack item. But if you are creative, you can make Pazham Pori at home with less Oil and more tastier than the usual stuff.
Add a little Custard powder and Cardamom powder and 2-3 drops of Vanilla essence to the Maida mixture. This blend will give an appetising smell and flavour to that tired old taste of Banana Fry.
Try it today and the kids will love it. You too...!!
Use Nirlep big Tawa to fry. Brush a very little oil on the Tawa and fry the Bananas until golden brown by turning both sides.
